Yonge suites Toronto: a Harbourfront stay at 18 Yonge

The Yonge suites are at 18 Yonge Street, at the foot of Yonge on Toronto's waterfront. Choose this base for Union Station, Scotiabank Arena, the Island ferry and Queens Quay. Do not choose it for Yonge-Dundas Square or Eaton Centre nightlife. That is a different part of Yonge Street.

Which part of Yonge Street is this?

This is Harbourfront. Lake Ontario is south. Union Station and the Financial District are north. Scotiabank Arena is west toward Bay Street. St. Lawrence Market is east along Front Street.

That distinction matters because "Yonge suites Toronto" can sound like a search for the shopping and theatre blocks around Yonge-Dundas Square. The Yonge building is not there. StayToronto's Pantages building serves that other part of downtown.

At 18 Yonge, the useful map has one hinge: Queens Quay. Turn east along the water for Sugar Beach. Turn west for the Jack Layton Ferry Terminal and Harbourfront Centre. Turn north for the trains, arena and office core.

What is outside the building?

Canada's Sugar Beach sits at the foot of Lower Jarvis Street beside the Redpath Sugar Factory. The pink umbrellas and candy-striped rocks belong to an urban beach, not a swimming beach. It is the eastbound waterfront walk from Yonge.

Westbound, the Jack Layton Ferry Terminal is at 9 Queens Quay West, at Bay Street. Continue along Queens Quay to Harbourfront Centre at 235 Queens Quay West, where Lower Simcoe Street meets the water. The Martin Goodman Trail follows the same waterfront corridor.

This is what staying at the bottom of Yonge feels like. The lake is part of the daily route, not a distant excursion. The trade-off is that the immediate blocks feel like a waterfront and South Core edge, not a restaurant or theatre strip.

Which of the three Yonge suites fits?

StayToronto's Yonge building page carries three furnished layouts. All three list in-suite laundry, a dishwasher, Wi-Fi and air conditioning.

• Studio: a queen bed in an open room. Best for one traveller or a couple who wants the smallest layout. Trade-off: sleeping, dining and living space share one room.
• One bedroom with sofa bed: a queen bedroom plus a sofa bed in the living area. Best for a couple wanting a separate bedroom, or a small group. Trade-off: the extra sleeping place uses the common room.
• One bedroom plus den, two bathrooms: the largest of the three, with a den and a second bathroom. Best for a family or two couples who value another room and bathroom. Trade-off: the building label alone does not specify the current den sleeping setup.

The most useful difference is not a brochure word. It is where people go when one person is sleeping. The studio keeps everyone in one room. The one-bedroom moves the main bed behind a door. The den layout adds another room and a second bathroom.

How do you reach Union Station, the arena and Pearson?

For Union Station at 65 Front Street West, walk north toward Front Street, then west into the station block between Bay and York. Union connects TTC Line 1, GO Transit, VIA Rail and UP Express.

For Scotiabank Arena, walk west toward Bay Street. The arena is at 40 Bay Street, on the northwest corner of Lake Shore Boulevard West and Bay, and its Galleria connects with Union. That makes this a useful base when a train arrival and an arena night belong to the same trip.

At Queens Quay/Ferry Docks, the 509 Harbourfront and 510 Spadina both run along Queens Quay to Union. Streetcar routing on the waterfront can change during major events like the CNE or during construction, so check the live TTC alert for the day you travel.

An adult TTC trip costs $3.30 by PRESTO, contactless debit or credit, including a card in a mobile wallet. The tap starts a two-hour transfer. Cash is $3.35 and does not include the two-hour transfer or monthly fare capping.

Monthly fare capping began on 1 September 2026. Use the same card or device and the TTC stops charging after 47 paid trips in the calendar month. Most monthly passes ended on 31 August. A visitor does not need to buy a PRESTO card just to get this fare.

The old "about 25 minutes" line for the airport train is now stale. The current UP Express schedule lists 28 minutes from Union to Pearson, with trains every 15 minutes on the standard schedule.

How does the Toronto Island ferry work from here?

The ferry terminal is west of Yonge at 9 Queens Quay West. It sits 100 metres south of the Bay Street intersection, behind the Westin Harbour Castle. The location is simple once you know the terminal is set back from Queens Quay rather than facing the street.

City ferries run from the terminal year-round. From mid-April to mid-October, the City operates routes to Centre Island, Hanlan's Point and Ward's Island. The winter schedule uses Ward's Island only.

The queue is the part broad waterfront guides underplay. The City lists 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. as the typical outbound peak and 5 to 9 p.m. as the return peak on weekends and holidays. Waits in those windows can exceed 30 to 60 minutes. Leave outside that band when the day is flexible.

Who does the Yonge building suit?

Choose it when the trip keeps returning to the water, Union or Scotiabank Arena. It also works for a visitor who wants St. Lawrence Market and the Financial District within the same east-and-north walking grid.

Look elsewhere when the point of the trip is Yonge-Dundas Square, the Eaton Centre or the theatre district around Victoria Street. The shared word "Yonge" does not make those blocks nearby. It also does not suit someone who expects a guaranteed lake view from every suite. The location is waterfront; a view belongs to the exact unit.

What should you skip?

Skip driving around the arena and waterfront before or after a major event. The street grid compresses around Bay, Lake Shore and the Gardiner ramps while the same crowd is walking to Union.

Skip the assumption that "Yonge" means Yonge-Dundas. Search the full address, 18 Yonge Street, before judging the location.
