By using stay-toronto.com, contacting us, or booking a stay, you agree to this policy.
1. Information we collect
You give us directly:
- Inquiry / contact forms — your name, email address, phone/WhatsApp number, requested dates, number and type of guests, unit preference, and any message you send.
- Bookings — when you book through our secure booking page, you provide your stay dates, guest details, government ID (for check-in verification), and payment details. Payment card details are processed by our payment provider, not stored by us.
- Communications — messages you send us by email, phone, or WhatsApp, and our replies.
We collect automatically when you visit the site:
- Usage and device data— pages viewed, links and buttons clicked (including “Book Now” and “Check Availability”), approximate location, browser and device type, and referring source, collected via Google Analytics 4 and Google Tag Manager.
- Attribution cookie — a first-party cookie (
st_attrib) that records the campaign source of your visit (e.g. UTM tags, Googlegclid, or Metafbclid) for up to 30 days, so we can understand which ads and emails lead to bookings. It does not contain your name or contact details. - Advertising measurement — where enabled, tags from Google and Meta that help us measure and improve our advertising.
We do not collect special-category data, and our site is not directed at children under 18.
2. How we use your information
We use your information to:
- respond to your inquiries and provide quotes and availability;
- process, confirm, and manage your booking, including pre-arrival instructions, ID verification, and any deposit or damage waiver;
- communicate with you before, during, and after your stay;
- operate, secure, and improve our website and services;
- measure and improve our marketing and understand which campaigns lead to bookings;
- comply with legal, tax, and accounting obligations, and enforce our Terms of Service.
Our legal basis under PIPEDA is your consent (which you may withdraw) and our legitimate business interests in operating and improving our services. Providing a booking and pre-arrival service necessarily requires the booking information above.
3. How we share your information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers who help us run StayToronto, each bound to protect it and use it only for the services they provide to us:
- Beds24 — our booking engine (
book.stay-toronto.com), to check availability and process reservations. - Stripe — to process payments and any deposit hold.
- Resend — to send transactional and inquiry-related email.
- Google (Analytics, Tag Manager, Ads) — for website analytics and advertising measurement.
- Meta (Facebook/Instagram), where enabled — for advertising measurement.
- Vercel — website hosting.
- WhatsApp / Meta — if you choose to message us there.
We may also disclose information where required by law, to protect our rights or safety, or in connection with a business transfer. Some providers are located in the United States; where information is transferred outside Canada, it may be subject to the laws of those jurisdictions, and we take reasonable steps to ensure it remains protected.
4. Cookies and tracking
We use:
- Essential cookies needed for the site and booking flow to work;
- Analytics and attribution cookies (Google Analytics, the
st_attribcookie) to understand site use and campaign performance.
You can control or block cookies through your browser settings; blocking some may affect site functionality. You can opt out of Google Analytics via Google’s browser add-on, and adjust ad personalization in your Google and Meta account settings.
5. How long we keep it
We keep inquiry and booking information for as long as needed to provide our services and to meet legal, tax, and accounting requirements, after which it is deleted or anonymized. Analytics data is retained according to our Google Analytics retention settings.
6. How we protect it
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect personal information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) and access controls. We never include API keys, payment card numbers, or guest contact lists in our website code. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information and limit access to those who need it.
