Pearson to Downtown Toronto: The Four Ways, and What Each Really Costs

For most adults going from Pearson to downtown Toronto, take UP Express. Tap a bank card for $9.25 and the train takes 28 minutes to Union Station.

Take the TTC when the lowest fare matters more than the transfer at Kipling. Choose a licensed airport taxi or rideshare only when door-to-door travel is worth more than a fixed rail time.

Downtown at the other end of the airport transfer. This is the view from one real York suite in South Core, not a promised view from every suite.

The four ways compared

• UP Express: $9.25 by contactless or PRESTO, or $12.35 for a standard ticket. The official trip is 28 minutes from Pearson Station to Union Station. Best for most adults travelling during train hours.
• TTC 900 Airport Express plus Line 2: $3.30 by contactless or PRESTO, or $3.35 cash. TTC publishes 45 minutes between downtown and Pearson, with a 20 to 25 minute bus leg. Best for the lowest fare and light luggage.
• Licensed airport taxi or limo: flat rate by destination zone, with no single downtown-wide range posted. Pearson publishes no fixed road duration. Best for groups, heavy bags and a direct building drop-off.
• Uber or Lyft: live upfront app price, with no fixed airport-to-downtown range or duration. Best for door-to-door travel when the current quote works.

The UP fare, UP schedule, TTC fare and TTC airport times above were checked on 5 August 2026. Taxi and rideshare do not belong in a made-up price band. Their official pages publish a zone quote or a live app price instead.

Should UP Express be the default?

Yes. Follow the Train to City signs at Pearson. The UP platform is at Terminal 1. From Terminal 3, the airport's Terminal Link train takes two minutes to Terminal 1, according to the official UP wayfinding guide.

An adult contactless or PRESTO fare from Pearson to Union is $9.25. A standard one-way ticket is $12.35. A physical PRESTO card is not required. Tap a credit card, debit card, phone or watch before boarding, then tap off with the same payment method at Union.

Skip the $12.35 standard ticket if you are an adult who can tap. The same trip is $3.10 less by contactless payment.

The current UP schedule PDF gives a 28-minute ride and service every 15 minutes. From Pearson, the first weekday train is 5:27 a.m. The first weekend and holiday train is 6:24 a.m. The last train is 12:54 a.m. on both schedules.

For three to five travellers, do the group calculation before everyone taps. The official one-way group passes are $25 for three people, $32.50 for four and $40 for five. Each is sold online and costs less than the same number of $9.25 adult taps.

UP does not suit an overnight arrival outside those hours. It is also the wrong default for someone who needs a vehicle at the terminal curb and a drop-off at the building door.

Is the TTC really only $3.30 from Pearson?

Yes. Board the 900 Airport Express at Terminal 1 Ground Level or Terminal 3 Arrivals. It runs to Kipling Station, where you continue east on Line 2 Bloor-Danforth.

The adult fare is $3.30 by contactless or PRESTO. Tap again when you enter Kipling Station. The second tap is covered by the automatic two-hour TTC transfer, so the bus and subway still cost $3.30 total.

Cash costs $3.35. Cash does not include the flexible two-hour transfer. It permits a continuous TTC trip with a paper transfer, which is a worse tool for a visitor changing vehicles and finding the right station exit.

The TTC airport page puts the 900 bus leg at 20 to 25 minutes and the downtown airport journey at 45 minutes. The route operates from about 5:30 a.m. to 2 a.m. Monday through Saturday, and from about 8:15 a.m. to 2:15 a.m. on Sunday.

This route has the lowest fare. It does not suit someone with several bags who does not want a bus-to-subway transfer at Kipling.

What cost do most airport guides miss?

The last TTC leg after UP Express.

Ontario's One Fare program does not include UP Express. The TTC says so directly. If you pay $9.25 for UP and then tap onto the TTC at Union, the adult total becomes $12.55.

The 900 bus and Line 2 are both TTC. They cost $3.30 together when completed inside the two-hour tap window.

That creates the useful comparison:

• UP to Union, then walk: $9.25
• UP to Union, then TTC: $12.55
• TTC 900 to Kipling, then subway: $3.30

Do not assume that the word PRESTO on both readers makes the transfer free. One Fare covers TTC connections with GO Transit and participating local systems. It excludes UP Express.

Are Pearson taxis flat rate or metered?

Licensed Pearson taxis and limos use flat rates to Toronto destinations. They are not metered airport rides, and Pearson says there is no surge pricing. The official taxi page provides an address estimator and links a destination-zone tariff map. It does not publish one downtown-wide range that honestly covers York, Atmos, Parade and Jarvis.

Get the exact flat rate for the building address before the vehicle leaves the curb. Pearson says airport limos cost about 10 per cent more than taxis.

At Terminal 1 Arrivals, taxis use Door D and limos use Door C. At Terminal 3 Arrivals, both use Door E. Licensed airport taxis and limos do not collect passengers inside the terminal or in a parking garage.

Skip anyone offering an unofficial ride in the baggage hall. Go to the signed curb, look for the GTAA plate and window decal, and use the posted flat rate.

A taxi suits a family, a group splitting one fare, a traveller with bulky bags or anyone who needs a direct entrance drop-off. It does not suit a solo traveller whose priority is the lowest price.

How do Uber and Lyft pickups work at Pearson?

Request the ride after collecting your luggage. Pearson assigns rideshare services to specific zones:

• Terminal 1 Ground Level: Lyft uses Zone 3 at Doors P and Q. Uber uses Zones 4 and 5 across Doors Q to S.
• Terminal 3 Arrivals: Lyft uses Zones 2 and 3 at Doors B and D. Uber uses Zones 3 to 6 at Doors B and D.

Use the zone shown in the app. The Pearson rideshare page is the source for those locations.

There is no honest fixed rideshare number to print. Uber's Canadian pricing page says the upfront fare includes trip distance, expected traffic and dynamic pricing when demand is high. Lyft's Toronto page also says a high upfront price can reflect more ride requests than available drivers.

Rideshare suits someone who wants a door-to-door ride and is comfortable with the live quote. It does not suit a traveller who wants the same predictable price at every arrival time.

How do you get from the airport route to your suite?

The airport decision ends at a different place for each downtown base. These station and streetcar connections follow the TTC's June 2026 subway and streetcar map.

• York suites at 12 and 14 York Street connect directly to the UP endpoint. Get off at Union Station and walk into South Core and the Financial District. No TTC add-on is needed.
• Atmos suites sit in the Entertainment District. From Union, continue on Line 1 to St Andrew or take the final trip above ground.
• Parade suites are west of Union in CityPlace and Fort York. From the TTC route, Line 2 to Bathurst Station and a southbound Bathurst streetcar avoids doubling back through Union.
• Jarvis suites are east of Yonge in Downtown East and the Garden District. From Kipling, take Line 2 to Bloor-Yonge, then Line 1 south to Dundas and walk east.

No building dominates the airport-transfer question. Pick the route for the bags and arrival time, then use the neighbourhood path that matches the suite.
