Nuit Blanche Toronto 2026: the all-night art walk, and staying walkable

Nuit Blanche Toronto 2026 runs from 7 p.m. on Saturday, October 3 to 7 a.m. on Sunday, October 4, with free contemporary art across the city. For a night that ends with a walk back to bed, make City Hall and Old City Hall your main circuit, add the Richmond Street galleries if you want a longer outing, and choose your stay around the last stop. Official event details.

Do downtown properly. Do not spend the night trying to collect every pin on the Toronto map. This plan suits a first visit and a late finish; it does not suit someone whose must-see work is across the city or who wants an evening without standing and walking.

Which Nuit Blanche areas are worth your night?

Start with City Hall and Old City Hall

Put Nathan Phillips Square, 100 Queen Street West, and Old City Hall, 60 Queen Street West, at the centre of your route. The City's 2026 art map places several commissioned works at each address. You can spend time looking instead of repeatedly finding the next district.

At Nathan Phillips Square, Alexandra Gelis's in Water, Together sits west of the TORONTO sign, using water, light, video and sound. Couzyn van Heuvelen's Avataq is north of the sign. Across Bay Street, Museum of Lost Things by Rhonda Weppler and Trevor Mahovsky brings lantern versions of lost objects into Old City Hall. For step-free entry to Old City Hall, use Albert Street east of Bay Street. The Queen Street entrance has stairs. Save the entrance as well as the artwork pin.

Add Kensington-Chinatown for the galleries

The official map labels the western cluster Kensington-Chinatown. Its anchors include Built for Art at 401 Richmond Street West and Night Market for a Future Garden at 222 Spadina Avenue. Take Queen Street West out of the City Hall area, then turn south toward Richmond. These are walking links, not another subway journey.

401 Richmond's own 2026 listing confirms free admission from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., with programming on its first floor and lower level. This is the useful western anchor for someone who wants rooms of art as well as the outdoor square.

Make one firm choice before setting out: City Hall only, or City Hall plus the western galleries. Leave the cross-city detour for a night built around that particular work. A full map is not an itinerary.

How do you move around without a car?

Use TTC Line 1 to approach the downtown circuit. Queen Station serves the Old City Hall side; Osgoode Station serves the western approach. The City's current travel page confirms all-night subway service on Lines 1 and 2 for this edition.

The same page lists three useful warnings:

• 19 Bay: diverted between Dundas Street West and Richmond Street West from noon October 2 to noon October 4.
• 501 Queen and 301 Queen: a construction detour uses Adelaide Street West between York Street and Church Street.
• GO Transit: regular service, with no additional late-night trains for Nuit Blanche.

Skip driving into the central circuit. Bay Street closes between Dundas and Richmond; Queen Street West closes between University Avenue and Bay. Do not set a pickup point inside those blocks. Official 2026 travel and closure information.

Walk between the nearby works. Use the subway for a real change of area, not to avoid a short link between City Hall stops. All-night subway service does not turn a GO train home into an all-night service.

Where should you eat before the art walk?

Eat a proper dinner before joining the City Hall circuit. These three choices cover different approaches and budgets. Prices below are Canadian dollars for the specified food, before tax, drinks and any separate gratuity.

• Salad King, second floor, 340 Yonge Street: CA$18.25 to CA$19.75 for pad thai, depending on the protein. An early meal north of the core. Its posted Saturday closing time is 9 p.m. Use the Yonge address: its Queen Street branch has closed.
• The Rex, 194 Queen Street West: CA$15 to CA$18 for the listed veggie burger, beef burger or chicken sandwich with fries. A sit-down stop on the westward route. Music admission is a separate consideration, not part of this food budget.
• Richmond Station, 1 Richmond Street West: CA$33 to CA$47 across the current dinner mains. A longer dinner before the walk, just west of Yonge. The menu includes service in its prices. Its posted Saturday service begins at 4:30 p.m.

The City's event centre on Bay Street between Queen and Albert also lists food trucks, drinking water and accessible washrooms. Save that point separately from the artwork you want to see. A place to refill a bottle is useful at midnight.

Where can you stay and walk back at 3 a.m.?

Choose the last artwork before choosing the bed. StayToronto offers furnished short stays in downtown condos, but "downtown" still covers different return walks. Including ours.

The table uses selected mapped street routes to City Hall, measured from OpenStreetMap data and rounded to a tenth of a kilometre. It deliberately avoids the Eaton Centre and underground PATH shortcuts. Read it as a comparison of the routes below, not a walking-time promise.

• Pantages, 200/210 Victoria Street: 1.0 km, southwest via Victoria and Queen, then into the square. A Downtown Yonge base for finishing around City Hall. A western-gallery finish leaves the return walk across the core.
• Peter, 101 Peter Street: 1.2 km, northeast via Peter and Queen. A King West base for adding 401 Richmond. It puts you west of the main City Hall cluster.
• Yonge, 18 Yonge Street: 1.6 km, north on Yonge, west on Queen. A Harbourfront base for a wider Toronto weekend. This is the waterfront end of Yonge, not the theatre blocks beside Pantages.
• York, 12/14 York Street: 2.0 km on the selected route via Bremner, Lower Simcoe, Simcoe and Queen. A South Core base for Union arrivals. This street route goes around the station passages; it adds walking at the end of the night.

Here is the distinction a building name hides: Pantages and Yonge are not interchangeable Yonge-area bookings. Pantages is at Victoria Street's theatre blocks. The Yonge suites are down at 18 Yonge by the waterfront. At 3 a.m., that difference matters more than a skyline photograph.

Where does the night go after the main circuit?

There is no need to add a nightclub to make Nuit Blanche a late night. Continue west to 401 Richmond for its free overnight programme, or make Fran's at 200 Victoria Street the food stop before bed. Fran's official locations page lists the Victoria restaurant as open 24 hours. Food is paid separately.

That Victoria address is also one of the Pantages building addresses above. It is a useful pairing for a City Hall finish: art, diner, then your building on the same street. It is not a promise of a table or an internal connection.

For an earlier music break, The Rex on Queen Street West is a separate venue choice. Its admission policy distinguishes ticketed evening performances from pay-what-you-can shows. A free Nuit Blanche itinerary does not include a Rex ticket. For a 3 a.m. finish, keep the plan to the art, the diner and the walk home.

Before you go

• Check the official 2026 project map for individual artwork hours, entrance instructions and access needs. The event's overnight span is not a blanket schedule for every room.
• Recheck TTC service notices and your GO journey before leaving. The City confirms overnight subway service; it does not announce free TTC travel on its travel page.
• Recheck restaurant menus, kitchen hours and any music tickets before committing to a food stop. The food bands above cover selected dishes, not a whole evening's bill.
• Confirm the exact suite address and arrival instructions before booking. Route lengths use OpenStreetMap pedestrian data with street waypoints, not an on-foot or step-free audit; queues, crossings and your actual entrance add time.
